YELLOWFACE
BY REBECCA F.KUANG

"Just finished Yellowface by Rebecca F.Kuang and it was a gripping read! The story, narrated in first person by (a wholely unlikeable) woman grappling with jealousy towards her late friend, takes a fascinating turn as she appropriates and rewrites her friend's unfinished book under her own name. It's an insightful exploration of insecurity, unrecognised racism, the churn of cancel culture, and the limitations of our own perspectives. I couldn't put it down—finished it in a single day!”

THE EMPLOYEES
BY OLGA RAVN

"I'm currently reading The Employees by Olga Ravn, and it's an intriguing blend of futuristic mystery and existential exploration. The narrative unfolds through a series of witness statements, painting a vivid picture of the interactions between the last surviving humans and AI robots coexisting aboard a spaceship. It's a shorter read, but incredibly engaging as perspectives shift between characters, slowly unraveling a sense of nefarious undertones. Both groups grapple with existential questions, questioning their identities and delving into the essence of being human. It's delightfully quirky and made for a refreshing holiday read."

"I'm currently reading Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller. It follows the story of twins, Jeanie and Julius, both 51 years old and still living with their mother. When their mother passes away, a cascade of secrets unravels, challenging everything they believed about their lives. I'm thoroughly enjoying this read so far!"

PRETTY GIRLS
BY KARIN SLAUGHTER

"My last read of 2023 was Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter, and it was phenomenal—definitely not for the faint-hearted, considering its graphic nature. The story revolves around the disappearance of Julia Carroll in 1991, her body never recovered. Nearly two decades later, another young girl, Anna Kilpatrick, goes missing, and a murder tied to the case surfaces. The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of Lydia and Claire, Julia's sisters, complemented by diary entries from their father, Sam Carroll, who dedicated years to unraveling the mystery of his missing daughter. The story starts as a slow burn, initially confusing with its various perspectives, but the major twists kept me completely gripped."
