How to Measure Yourself

Made to measure

Made-to-measure pieces are cut to the numbers you give us, so a few careful minutes now make all the difference. Only the measurements your piece needs will appear on the product page.

Before you start

You'll need

A soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler), a mirror, and ideally a friend to help with shoulders and sleeves.

What to wear

Underwear or thin, fitted layers only. For bust, wear the bra you plan to wear with the piece.

When

Morning is best, before your body changes through the day. Stand relaxed and barefoot.

The three rules

01

Snug, not tight

The tape should sit flat against your body with room to slip one finger underneath.

02

Keep it level

Stand side-on to a mirror and check the tape is parallel to the floor all the way round.

03

Breathe out

Relax and breathe out normally. Don't hold your breath or pull in. Measure twice and use the average.

Your measurements

Shoulders

Measure across your back from one shoulder bone to the other, following the natural curve. Ask someone to help, as it's very hard to do alone.

Common mistake: measuring across the front, or from the neck. Find the bony point at the very edge of each shoulder.

Bust

Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back. Wear the bra you'll wear with this piece.

Common mistake: letting the tape ride up at the back. Check it in the mirror before you read the number.

Sleeve

With your arm relaxed and slightly bent, measure from the shoulder bone, over the elbow, down to your wrist bone.

Common mistake: measuring with a straight arm, which gives a sleeve that feels short when you move.

Waist

Measure around your natural waist: the narrowest point, usually just above your belly button. Bend to one side and the crease that forms is your waist.

Common mistake: measuring where your jeans sit. That's lower, and will make a fitted waist too big.

Hips

Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Common mistake: measuring at the hip bones. The fullest point is usually lower, around the widest part of your seat.

Inseam

Barefoot, measure from the top of your inner thigh (the crotch) straight down the inside of your leg to the floor.

Common mistake: adding extra for heels or a longer look. Give us your body measurement; if a piece is cut for a heel, the product page will say so.

Height

Stand barefoot with your back and heels against a wall, looking straight ahead. Rest a book flat on your head, mark the wall, and measure from the floor to the mark.

Common mistake: using a height from memory or measuring in shoes. Even 2 to 3cm changes where a hem falls.

Good to know

Body, not garment

Always give us your body measurements. The designer adds the right amount of ease for the style, so don't add extra room yourself.

Fit preferences

Prefer something closer fitting or more relaxed? Tell us in a note with your order rather than changing your numbers.

Read the product note

Some pieces come with a note above the measurement fields, such as the heel height a length is cut for. It only appears when it matters.

Still not sure?

Our team is happy to help you get it right before your piece goes into production.
